Franklin Canyon and Hollywood Blvd

On the way to Franklin Canyon Park from the East, you have to take Hollywood Blvd and on a Saturday, it’s alway’s busy with tourists, characters, beggers, you name it. Well on this particular Saturday, Chris and I saw the most amazing sight! One that even turned my jaded head into a redneck, rubbernecking rube. Right before us were these serious Christians reinacting Calvary. There are few things more bizarre than the vision of three giant wooden crosses in front of the Hollywood and Highland mall! In the first, brief video, I was trying to at least capture a picture of them. These guys weren’t joking around. They even had a pretend Jesus standing against the biggest cross. Chris tried to slow the car down so that I could get a shot, but we were in the left fucking lane, and with the giant tour busses, Humvee’s and other giant, gas guzzlers to our right, it was impossible to catch them on film. We circled the block and in Hollywood, that’s no simple task. Just try it from the corner of H & H. Any corner. So by the time we got back, they had vanished! God damn it!

Video 1 : No! You didn’t!

What about that truck full of tiny balls at 0:26? We decided it was for a reality program. There was a limo waiting at the foot of the stairs with barriers at 0:36.

About Russell Smith

I was born at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. I find inspiration in the lives of so many people from Joan of Arc to Oscar Wilde. While my primary avocation is photography, I also enjoy philosophy, theology and most of all, history. My beloved wife, Robin Anne Smith, who passed away in 2013 is also an inspiration to me. My beloved partner, Dana is also a great support and inspiration to me. I'd be remiss if I did not mention my cats: Natasha, Maxwell, Tigger and Nigel.
